Skywarn Weather Spotter Class - Seymour Duane Davis, Jackson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director, encourages area residents interested in weather spotting training to attend the upcoming free class. Free Jackson County Storm Spotter Weather Training April 17, 2014 What is Indiana’s tornado season going to be like this year? “It’s difficult to determine,” said Dave Tucek, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “As we all saw with last November’s tornadoes, it’s important that everyone is prepared and responds whenever severe weather occurs.” The National Weather Service, working with the Jackson County Emergency Management Agencies (EMA), will conduct severe storm spotter training from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17. The training is free and will be held at the Main Source Bank, 1130 E. Tipton St., Seymour. National Weather Service Meteorologist Dave Tucek will describe cloud and wind patterns associated with severe weather, how to interpret weather radar data, and how to remain safe during severe weather. The training session is open to the general public. “Awareness and preparedness are keys to safety,” said Duane Davis, Director of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency. “And volunteers monitoring the sky and reporting severe weather helps increase everyone’s safety,” added Davis. Some items to help prepare for spring storms include: check your weather radio for functionality, fresh batteries for radios, flashlights, and smoke detectors. Does your flashlight work? We also recommend getting the gutters and downspouts cleaned and have old damaged caulking around doors and windows replaced. You don’t want to be surprised with unexpected water damage in the house or basement. Please remember to not drive through standing water or around road blocks and be aware of fallen trees and limbs in roadways. Please contact Duane Davis, Jackson County Emergency Management director at 358-6110 for any additional information.
