Slaney Cycling Club held their AGM at the Riverside Park Hotel - TopicsExpress

Slaney Cycling Club held their AGM at the Riverside Park Hotel last Wednesday and the large group in attendance reviewed another successful year for the club. Before commencing proceedings the club expressed condolences to Stephen & Shane Kelly on the passing of Stephens father Micheal, the Dobbs family on the passing of Willie Dobbs and to Tom Walsh on the passing of his son Toss in November. After approving the minutes of the previous AGM and the reports from the chairman, secretary and reviewing the financial report the current committee stepped down. The newly elected officers for 2015 are chairman Paddy Dunne, secretary Mick Howe and treasurer Murry McDonald who will be supported by an enlarged committee representing all of the clubs activities. The club organised various events during the year including its Novice/A4 racing league, the popular Mount Leinster Challenge leisure/sportive event and the nationally ranked Eddie Tobin Memorial road races. The club also supported some great local charity cycling events like the Dragon Sportive, The Ferns St Luke’s charity cycle and the Katie O’Brien cycle. In addition Slaney CC members took part in numerous charity cycling events around the country and as far away as the Marmotte while there was an active group racing in competitive events during the season. On the racing front one of the highlights was Paul Bolger’s win the Des Hanlon Classic in Carlow while the under 16 team had a number of wins in national open events, had a successful week racing in Belgium & Holland and look forward to joining the junior ranks in 2015. Various positive recommendations from the floor were discussed in AOB and will be followed up by the new executive. They include improved communication between members and actively supporting and encouraging new members. Plans for 2015 are being developed but one of the mainstays will be the Sunday tour from the Duffy Gate at 10am each Sunday morning and the club welcome new members joining. Riding with a group is a great way to build fitness and confidence on the bike and get prepared for tackling some events in the summer. Just come along any Sunday or contact the club through its website, slaneycyclingclub or its facebook page for information. As discussed at the meeting the new gear has been delayed but we are expecting delivery in or about the 7th/10th February and we will arrange a night in the Riverside to distribute gear that has been preordered and open the remainder for sale.
