Slaves desired freedom NOT to then reflect on and discuss or debate captivity. They desired freedom to move forward. Many of us think were doing our ancestors a justice and service constantly bringing up a history THEY (not us) lived through and died because of - were not. Were doing more harm than good when we try to force remembrance instead of pushing growth and change. Speak with an elder person in their 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond; those who have actually lived through times that we read and watch videos about - most of them are outraged at US for what and who WE have allowed ourselves to become.
