Slice of life: Tonight I recruited a mixed group of folks to play Sentinels at Barnes & Noble. A new friend at the university, the son-in-law of neighbors whose wedding I officiated, my son and his friend, plus a neighbor and her son, so we were multi-generational and then some. My sons friends mom was sitting nearby reading Shakespeare. While we were playing, the couple who is ALWAYS there came in. I think they sit at the coffee shop every day and play Mexican Train, and have been doing so at least since our third was born three years ago when we moved here. It was the husbands 73rd birthday, so they brought cake, and distributed pieces to everyone in the whole coffee shop. It was so kind, so warm, so unexpected. This moment is now my definition of a third place and why I love them so.
