Slim Farrell had the weirdest dream last night. It was sort of set in the future but not really. The world and its peoples were under siege from the wealthiest and most powerful. Industry continued to devour the planet. Lies were told through an innovative idea called the news. Of course like any good lie,it needs to be sprinkled with small pieces of truth. This gives the impression of credibility. In Slims dream, the news services were actually the propaganda division of the corporations that not so secretly ran the world. This propaganda was used very very successfully to create the illusion of divisiveness and enmity between the ordinary peoples of the world. Apart from creating mistrust and separation between the people, it was also used to magnify feelings of powerlessness and apathy............ unless of course when the war drums were being beaten. Much like the example of Pavlovs dog, the humans who had been so expertly and covertly trained to respond to certain signals or suggestions, all very much, without question or reason,responded in the predictable training of their masters. Much of humanity had been trained to sit quietly, or to savagely attack upon command. The big galoot tossed and turned uncomfortably during his dream. Because the dream was so close to reality but far enough in the future, it was also full of high tech gadgetry. One of the things Slim recalled from the dream was a marvelous device which had been invented,which gave the opportunity for most of the humans on the planet to interconnect with each other via a means of a newly discovered and freely used technology of communication. It was a small screen, which when plugged into the portal of a common domain, gave all the people of the world a chance to communicate directly with each other,in a fashion which had until that point,had been entirely unprecedented in human history. The uses for such a device were enormous. Resistance. Solidarity and a sharing of the truth. Cleverly though, the powers that be, understood that such a device could never be allowed to achieve its full potential. It was an enormous threat to their ownership and distribution of information and propaganda. They also realised that such technology could not be kept hidden forever. Within Slims dream, they cleverly devised a plan to corrupt the flow of communication and the truthful dispersion of information. They filled it with nonsense and with fun filled distraction. They also piled on high misinformation, to destabilise and to encourage the belief that this new weapon, a weapon of such possible truth and solidarity, wasnt anything more than a game for people to play. This in itself , further helped to disempower the peoples of the world, by encouraging further apathy and lack of involvement. All the while, within Slims dream, the people of the world were blissfully unaware that the toy of which they played with, was in fact a powerfully dangerous instrument of change. During the rest of Slims nightmare, the corrupt ones, the liars, the cheats and the war makers, continued to plunder the planet. Worse still,they delighted in the corruption of innocence,truth and beauty. Wake up darling,wake up, I think youre having a nightmare said Sweet-Pea as she gently shook Slim awake. A few minutes later, still very much disturbed by his dream and unable to go back to sleep, Slim played quietly on his computer. He turned on facebook..................... and then amused himself by using a new gizmo, which when programmed properly by using the letters of his name, and then combining them with his age................ gave him a riotous definition of who he would be if he were in fact a Disney character. Slowly the dream began to fade from his memory and soon, Slim Farrell was once again, blissfully asleep.
