Smith County/Peace Officers Memorial - Fallen officers honored downtown. During the event on Thursday, Christy Carty-Mock said the past 8 years have been trying for her children: Maddy (10) & Justice (9); they lost their father, Jimmy Carty, Jr., when he suffered a fatal blow during training in 2006. Thursdays service remembered 14 officers killed in the line of duty in Smith county since the mid-1800s & the 13 officers killed in the line of duty in Texas from May 15, 2013 through May 15, 2014.
