Smt. Urmila Mittal Memorial Trust, New Delhi, in association with the office of Dean Students’ Welfare, Aligarh Muslim University distributed certificates of financial assistance to seventy girl students of AMU. The girls belonged to the Faculty of Medicine, Engineering, Law, Management, Senior Secondary School and graduate courses of the university. This ceremony was held at guest house No.1, AMU today. The Vice-Chancellor, Lt General (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah graced the occasion and urged the girls to make maximum use of this scholarship to achieve their degrees. He also told the recipients of scholarship that it was their duty to make their benefactor proud. Dean Students’ Welfare, Professor Anis Ismail, introduced the trustee, Mr. C.D. Mittal, a well-known figure in marketing consultancy at New Delhi. Mr. Mittal is an AMU alumnus who completed LLB in 1962 and thereafter PG Diploma in Business Administration in 1963. Shri Mittal set up this trust three years back in memory of his mother, who was the main inspiration for shaping the philosophy of assisting girls of weaker section of society to achieve their dreams. Smt. Urmila Mittal’s daughters, Mrs. Vijay Govil and Mrs. Manjula Arora, both AMU alumni and Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah were also present on the occasion. The trustee interacted with recipients and assured to help them even further. He inspired the girls to aim high and become self-reliant. The scholarships have been given with retrospective effect i.e. from 01.08.2014. Scholarship of Rs.500/- was awarded to 44 girl students of class XI and XII and Rs.2500/- to undergraduate girl students of the Faculty of Medicine (06 Nos.), Unani Medicine (01 No.), Law (03 Nos.), Engg & Tech (16 Nos.) Ms. Anam Tariq, from Senior Secondary School (girls) thanked the trustee on behalf of all the recipients.
