Sneaky, evil, cruel, life changing - all words to describe cancer. - TopicsExpress

Sneaky, evil, cruel, life changing - all words to describe cancer. We have had cancer visit before, and thought we had shown it to the curb each time. Dan has been testing and passed onto specialists for the past 4 months. In early May, we were told that he had cancer of the prostate. Yup, only 52. Cancer has been very present in Dans family on both sides. Here is where the positives come forth. Dans cancer was extremely early. His PSA numbers were very low. We are very thankful that his employer requires a full physical each year. Things have shown up in testing the past 2 years with Dan. Somethings along the way did not feel right. We kept things fairly close to the vest - our kids are always our first priority. They were dealing with finals and summer school responsibilities when we found out the news and scheduled surgery. We had to wait at least 8 weeks after Dans biopsies in order for healing to take place for surgery. We have taken and will continue to take things in the positive with this situation. At this point, we are fairly certain they got everything and we are only waiting on results from today - but it would be a surprise to have to have additional treatment (chemo or radiation) for Dan. Whew. The surgeon recommended to us to get it out! Dan is young and healthy, cancer has been aggressive and nasty to others in his family, and if left in - not sure what the outcome would of been. As expected, Dan was quite anxious and no one likes to have cancer in the back of their mind. But we are very relieved, thankful, and ready to heal and move on. Take that CANCER!
