Snowden; It’s not over: We have had a few spirited debates on my page where I was one of the few that does has not jumped on the Snowden is a hero bandwagons. [Bandwagons: not very stable over bumps and dips in the road; tip over easily upon turning] At the bottom of this I will post a previous one that I saved. BUT…today there is more: One of the reasons I did not jump on that hero bandwagon is my high suspicion that Snowden took and shared top security documents with the media that could put our operatives, our military, and even out country in jeopardy. With the amount of documents that he gave the Guardian, it was common sense to me that they were not all about NSA spying on us, or even things that could necessarily implicate this administration, per say, in any wrong doing. Today there was a big briefing regarding Snowden’s ‘very highly classified’ leaks. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) said attendees were very angry after hearing all the things Snowden leaked that were much more than the NSA and data collection. Thornberry is the chairman of the Armed Service panel’s Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee and also a member of the House Intelligence Committee. He characterized the leaks as so severe that they “compromise military capability and defense of the country” and “could cost lives” — while they “will certainly cost billions to repair.” “His actions were espionage, plain and simple,” Thornberry said. Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA) said ‘Ed Snowden isn’t a whistleblower; he’s a traitor,’ McKeon also added that regardless of how people felt about Snowden realizing the NSA information, they should be “shocked and outraged to find that a substantial amount of the information has nothing to do with the NSA.” “He’s given our enemies an edge and put American lives at risk,” said McKeon I know you people and the pages you follow. You are pro-America and pro-troops... How can you reconcile that with giving this creep hero status? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is a previous post about Snowden: Snowden; the debate continues… We had a discussion the other night about Edward Snowden when I asked whether you thought he was a Patriot or Traitor. That left me in the minority. There were things that were brought up that I wanted to further the topic on. I want to know, of those who consider him a Patriot; do you think he committed a crime and should he be charged? Because if the definition of a criminal is someone who commits a crime than we should easily be able to agree that he is one. The three crimes Snowden committed were: 18 U.S.C. 641 Theft of Government Property 18 U.S.C. 793(d) Unauthorized Communication of National Defense Information 18 U.S.C. 798(a)(3) Willful Communication of Classified Intelligence Information to an Unauthorized Person Can you agree that he committed those three acts? OR, are you so stuck on his ‘hero’ status that you deny ANY wrongdoing? The 2nd & 3rd charges fall under the Espionage Act for “giving national defense information to someone without a security clearance and revealing classified information about communications intelligence.” You cannot, in good faith, deny this. Put aside the ‘why’s’ for now. That is what lead to the criminal complaint and extradition requests AND why he was seeking political asylum. He KNOWS what he did is a crime and he is trying to justify his acts by claiming political retribution from this administration. He did knowingly and willfully give “top secret” classified information to the media for publication (prejudicial to the safety or interest of the United States) which makes him legally guilty of espionage according to 18 U.S.C. § 798. This is part of the U.S. Code. It is not some made up rule by the Obama administration. Despite what you think about NSA’s surveillance gathering, Edward Snowden broke the law. Now, my question is how much of your opinion is based on the fact that Obama is in office? What if either Bush were still president, or even Reagan, would you still consider Snowden giving the media America’s top secret information Patriotic? What if Snowden was not an American? That might have been possible. He was a hired contractor. The USA is stupid enough to do that. Would that change your opinion? This is what I have been seeing around the internet. The same people that despise this administration are tickled pink Snowden gave our top secrets away. But, at the same time, you are amazingly aligning yourself with the left. These are the people who are supporting Snowden’s actions along with you: Wikileaks founder HuffPo Guardian NYTimes Anonymous (anarchist & hackers, launched Operation Wall Street) Daily Kos These are the people calling for clemency for him. Doesn’t that give you pause in your opinion? The top part of this post is via PJ Media, thanks to fellow Cloud Joyce. Thanks for the h/t… ~ §torm
