So, Darren Wilson, the guy who shot an unarmed African American teenager was declared to be innocent by a grand jury today. Its really hard to say whether or not he actually shot Michael Brown in cold blood, and whether or not Michael Brown attacked him. The fact is, many unarmed people have been shot by police, and the majority of them are black or minority. The fact is, whether or not Darren Wilson was justified in his shooting of Michael Brown, the Jack-booted tactics of the Ferguson Police should not be overlooked. The fact is, regardless of who someone was, after being shot by the police, everyone should be entitled to medical care and not be left bleeding out on a sidewalk. The body of Michael Brown was left on that sidewalk in Ferguson Missouri for several hours. That is plain and simple disrespect. It outlines and underlines a very simple fact that the Ferguson Police Department does not respect the people they swear to serve and protect. The fact is, because of their heavy handed tactics, I think they deserve all of the broken bottles and other debris these rightfully angry protesters choose to throw. That being said, while police push the envelope, violate rights, and otherwise interfere with the actions of citizens, many small business owners have become victims due to their proximity. While I know my words will fall on deaf ears, I would like to say that I wish protesters would not vandalize the shops and surrounding businesses a Ferguson because of their outrage against the police. It is fair, and it is well founded to be angry with the police in this matter. However non peaceful protests have a way of victimizing people who were either already victims in the first place, or where otherwise unaffiliated with the incident. Because of this, I highly encourage peaceful protest that will bring about real change. These are highly effective when opposed to angry outbursts that will be disregarded because of mitigating circumstances.
