So I admit I might be jaded a bit, because as a Federal employee, - TopicsExpress

So I admit I might be jaded a bit, because as a Federal employee, the security of my home and family is currently at risk. I can absorb not being paid for a while, if it comes to that, but not for terribly long. That said, here’s the real problem with a Government shutdown: It doesn’t really “shut down.” Only 800,000 of us “non-essential” employees are either furloughed or at risk of being so in the next few days. But imagine how differently the clowns in Washington, D.C. would have handled this if EVERY DAMN ONE OF US went home today. Imagine if the soldiers all returned to their barracks to Skype with their families and play cards? Imagine if the FBI agents and CIA operatives all went home. Imagine if the clerks who process Social Security checks, or Medicare payments all went home today? Imagine if there were no air traffic controllers in the towers, or TSA agents at the security lines? Imagine if the border patrol all had to abandon their posts and return home, if the banks all had to close because their Federal regulators were sent home. Yes, they should have shut down the Government today because Congress failed in their duty. Today, they should be faced with solving this mess without the benefit of staff, aides, IT support, secretaries, drivers, cafeteria workers and even security guards. They exempted themselves from losing pay in a shutdown, so leave them to fix the government without the benefit of the 3.3 million of us who actually make the civil service and the military work. While I face the prospect of no pay for who knows how long, THEY are assured a paycheck. The President is assured a paycheck. So the right thing to do, in a government shutdown, is to shut down the actual damn government, and let the 553 elected officials figure this out on their own. Somehow, the fools seem content to “inconvenience America”, and harm 800,000 of us, and rack up bills to the tune of billions of taxpayer dollars, and I’m certain it’s because it doesn’t hurt enough. But if we actually faced a shutdown, I have a hunch they would have figured this out a long, long time ago. Do your damn job. I said “damn” a lot in this rant…
