So I am exiting Oak Lawn off of I-35 and I realize no song has particularly moved me so far this morning, and then I hit a red light on Maple Avenue and here is comes… I hear the song “Multiplied” by NeedtoBreathe. The chorus goes like this “God of mercy sweet love of mine, I have surrendered to Your design, May this offering stretch across the skies, And these Halleluiahs be multiplied.” This one is one that makes me well up right about the time my voice starts cracking singing the second time through the chorus. That line, “I have surrendered to Your design.” It’s almost too much to take in. A selfish person, in a selfish world, this is tough to do right? There is a point in our lives, and I think I am in the midst of it right now, where we realize the best laid plans of mice and men shrink in comparison to the plans He has for us. That moment, or moments, in life where we begin to understand that we are not wired for the things we think are best, for things that bring carnal happiness. He designs us for His plan, maybe that’s a vocation that you would never have thought of, or didn’t go to school for, or maybe its being a part of a church in a way you never thought you could be. I think this is part of what it means in Jeremiah 29, ” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” When we seek with “all of our heart,” knowing it might not be what we think is best, that’s when we begin to surrender to His design for us. Its risky business but most times God’s business is risky business. https://youtube/watch?v=fGF-MGGLpB0
