So..., I am sitting in a fast food restaurant in jackson Mississippi called raising canes. I had first heard about this chain years ago, on a tv show called secret millionaire. Since that episode I have wanted to try this chicken place out. When I arrived I was surprised to find a menu devoid of options. Your choices were simple, you could either choose to have three, four, or six chicken fingers, or a three chicken finger sandwich. All of which include the same same sides; a slice of grilled Texas toast, crinkle cut French fries, and raising canes proprietary dipping sauce, the larger two entrees also included a side of coleslaw. Initially this limited menu seemed to me to be a hindrance to their potential growth. That is until I surveyed the the massive drive thru line that wrapped around the building, and the maxed out occupancy of the dining area. As I sat patiently observing the crowd around my name was called, my order was ready, and I finally get the chance to see why all these people are here and why raising canes is one of the fastest growing chicken restaurants in the south east. Needless to say, the chicken was excellent and the sweet tea was on point. This made me realize, they chose to forgo diversity for excellence. They chose to do one thing and do it well! Now this brings me to the point of this post, (because believe it or not, this isnt a review or of raising canes) I am sitting in a fast food restaurant, staring at my chicken, and all I can now think about is the effectiveness of the global church. With all of our strategies, and programs, and efforts, what is our impact? And if there is one thing that could be our focus, and do it with excellence, what would that one thing be? That answer became quite clear the moment I asked myself, and for most people it is probably already obvious. However, that one thing is love. If we as a global church could love with absolute excellence how much of a greater impact would we have? How much more genuine, and authentic would all of our other strategies, programs, and efforts be perceived by the unchurched world. How much more, would a lost, broken, and hurting world be willing to receive the message of a savior who wants to heal and restore them.
