So I climbed in my car today and the first song I hear is Justin Moores If heaven wasnt so far away Today Sept 22 is the 19th Anniversary of my mom passing away. She died 2 days shy of the 13th Anniversary of my dad passing away. Sept 22, 1995 and Sept 24,1982 were two very difficult times in my life. So a while back I had an idea of a special way to honor my parents and all they gave to my sisters and I. Tomorrow, Sept 23, 2014, will be my last day as a full time employee of the Santa Barbara Sheriffs Office as a Senior Custody Deputy. I am retiring after a 30 year career with 16 years in the Jail and the last 14 as a Background Investigator. As I pack up my belongings and say see ya later to my friends and family at the Department I hope my folks will look down on me with smiles and pride of a job well done. I remember 2 things that my parents told me as I chose a path in life was an honest days work for an honest days wage and I dont care what you choose to be, just strive to be the best at it. My Boy Scout leaders growing up especially Dick Filarsky always emphasized the need to leave the campground a little nicer than you found it and I hope I was able to do that for the SBSO. Sit on a cloud and visit for awhile. Itd do me good just to see them smile If Heaven wasnt so far away.
