So I discovered something interesting tonight while finalizing my Pinocchio synch: Not every CD pressing is identical, even when rendered from the same source material. The rip of the Smashing Pumpkins Suffer that I originally used has a couple of scratches throughout, so I picked up another copy tonight from what I thought was the same pressing (read: original, not remastered). After I had imported the track into iTunes, I went to replace it in Final Cut, and discovered that it went out of sync. So I lined the two of them up in the timeline, and found that the new copy was substantially faster than the other. Timestretching it would be way more involved than simply editing the original track, so now Im back to square one. I realize that this is something we had discussed briefly on the old SynchBoard, but I got to see it up close and in action tonight. Just a friendly reminder that not even digital technology is infallible.
