So I drove into the garage today, waited for the garage door to go - TopicsExpress

So I drove into the garage today, waited for the garage door to go down and by the time I opened the back door to let the dogs out, Henry was in the back, vying for first place because, in his mind, he was going to be the first one to the dinner bowl. Well, it was 3:45 and dinner was at least 1.25 hours away, but no matter. He wants to be first. When he jumped out of my car and turned toward the door, he slid a little to the left and started yelping the most horrible sound youve ever heard. I dropped everything and and picket him up. I briefly set him down and he cried again, completely keeping any weight off his back leg, which was dangling. I put him back into the car and raced to my vet, trying not to cry. I sang a song I sing to him and started crying. We got there, I threw open the door, carefully picked up Henry and got right in to an exam room. Henrys leg was dangling still and it looked like it might have had a fracture, not the dislocation I originally thought...again, it dangled and there looked to be a protrusion; the muscles bulged out in one spot. The vet came in (my favorite one; the cute male one whom Henry loves). Henry actually wagged his tail at his doc. Doc looked at the leg, looked at me and I nodded knowingly. It looked grisly, and we both knew it. I put Henry up on the table, held him and told him how much Mama loves him. The vet started feeling the leg, starting up the hip joint. Doctor was waiting for a colleague to join us since he thought Henry might need to be stabilized (ie, held down). Henry looked at his doctor with the most pathetic, but stoic gaze. The vet worked his hands to the knee joint and felt that the patella (cap) was off the ridge. He glanced at Henry, quickly popped the patella back onto the ridge. Not one peep from Henry. We put Henry down on the floor and he started walking around, with a slight limp. We decided to give him some Rimdadyl, keep him snuggly, with no running or jumping for the next few days, and watch him over the weekend...thats it. Hes back home now, crying for his food, just as if nothing happened. I think I need a drink. #neveradullmoment #furbabies #henry PS Leaving the clinic, Henry stopped to relieve himself--bearing all his weight on his bad leg--and using as his target the lit-up faux Christmas presents decorations on the lawn. So proud.
