So I had my essay posted already, but I had to do some changing around so I had to delete it and re-post it. Hoping new players will have the chance to read it and utilize it. #GWTstrategy Server : S1-Blitz Character : Generalfeldmarschall Hello soldiers, Field Marshal here, Im here to train you through your boot camp process on your journey to becoming a feared tank commander! Lets begin! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. INTRODUCTION FOR NEW RECRUITS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Glad to see you have made it through your basic training soldiers, but now its time to go over what you have learned! Lets review the basics : ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hot News ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the first tabs you will notice is the Hot News tab, which is used to receive all Event items currently ongoing. The image below shows what the tab looks like when opened. i58.tinypic/20ubplv.png The Update Info, shows the current builds and patches that have been done to the server as well as any bug fixes. The Growth Missions are there to support you as you gain more kills, more succcessful battle wins, higher Tier vehicles and more. The Daily Missions are another Event given to you to help fund your vehicles. Finally, the Package is a newbie gift you can receive from the following : activity.gamebox/tkNewcard.shtml. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the most important factors to a vehicles survival is its Crew. i58.tinypic/4lg043.png As you can see by the image, this Crew is level 0 and has 2/17 experience which means he will need another 15 experience to reach Level 1. As Crews grow in level their skill in battle increases. i62.tinypic/29o0ei8.png The above image shows : The Crew name, which tank it is currently assigned to, the Crew Level, and the skills being learned or able to be learned. These skills will greatly help you on the battlefield. Skills are learned through gaining experience from battles. Recommendation : For Light, Medium, and Heavy Tanks, I would recommend you learning Remote Scout or Motion Collimation first as these will help you for your mobile assaults. For Tank Destroyers, I would recommend you learn Disguise or Reinforce Weakness first. These will support your slower moving and less versatile tanks which need to utilize cover and range to be successful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barracks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moving on to the Barracks. The Barracks is where all your Crews are stationed and listed. From the Barracks you can see the Level of each Crew, the Nationality (Russia, Germany, or the United States of America), as well as if they are Vacant or Serving, which means they are assigned to a vehicle or not. i61.tinypic/262vzx5.png Note : Be careful as you have limited Barracks space so dont create too many Crews too early on if you dont need to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Accessories ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The accessories are add-ons for tanks to give them more firepower, defence capabilities, or other statistics. As you can see from the following image, you have a variety to choose from, at a cost though. i57.tinypic/9pq1ac.jpg Recommendation : For Light, Medium, Heavy, and also Tank Destroyers, I would recommend you start with Ammo Bay Bag as one of your first upgrades. This is a highly sensitive area on a tank which can be the rise or fall of your success. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ammunition ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ammunition is also a key factor for survival among the battlefield. The following image shows the types of Ammo you can purchase/use as well as the quantity, the damages (both penetration and damage), as well as your vehicles repair status and supplies carried. i62.tinypic/303bf4z.jpg For most tanks, I would stick with using AP rounds as they are Armor Piercing and will get through most armors quite easily, where as the HE (Highly Explosive) can only be used in certain situations and in most cases have less velocity through air so they cannot penetrate thicker armors. You can also carry supplies on your tanks in case you are damaged, but these come at a price. Note : Be sure your vehicle is always fully repaired and re-armed before each battle! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Camoflauge ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i62.tinypic/2n0k2ea.png Another very useful tool is having camoflauge at your disposal. This is used to paint your tank in colors that match that of your surroundings, making you less visible to onlooking enemies waiting for you to reveal yourself! All camoflauge schemes give 5% stealth to both your stationary and mobile movements. You can choose from a variety of snow, grass, and desert themes, as well as add a custom signature to your vehicle. Here is an example of a painted camoflauge scheme on a tank : i61.tinypic/2qb6umb.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Depot ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Depot is used to show your current list of vehicles, the statistics of each, as well as any supplies and accessories you have purchased/equipped. i58.tinypic/2uz7ct2.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modifications ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like other specialities, modifications are of huge importance for your vehicle, from gun calibre size, to turret and hull armor, engine power, speed of your vehicle and more! The following image is an example of what you will see on this page. It lists the Gun, Turret, Hull (structure), Tracks, Engine, and your Signal Flag. Each of these will give your vehicle a higher chance to succeed on the vehicle, but be careful not to waste all your experience on a lower tier vehicle as they can not be gained back when sold. Recommendation : I recommend you only upgrade the necessary upgrades to research and purchase a higher tier tank, or if you need a higher calibre gun in battle before you start fully modifying vehicles. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. HOW TO DO RESEARCH WISELY. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that you have made it through boot camp, you will be able to have a better understanding of what type of vehicle you are looking to become a Commander of, but you must understand the abilities, advantages and disadvantages of each. Light, Medium, and Heavy Tanks : These 3 vehicles are the most commonly used tank on the battlefield, and are needed in all areas. As you reach the higher Tier tanks, you will notice you gain more armor, more power from the main gun, but the hit radius becomes larger as your tank has increased in size. You should be fighting from close to mid range on the battlefield when commanding one of these 3 tanks. Advantages : Speed, maneuverability, mobility, vision. Disadvantages : Exposed hull, likely to be scouted by enemy forces before Tank Destroyers, less penetration than a Tank Destroyer. Moving on to Tank Destroyers. These are the goliaths of the battlefield. They come with a heavier, more powerful main gun, but lack turrets. The problem with having a larger main gun is the poor maneuverability and turn rate of the vehicle which can be its downfall. In certain cases the Tank Destroyers can make up for armor with speed, or vice versa. You should be using this type of vehicle from a long range, and hidden in areas you will not be exposed to enemy scouts. Advantages : The advantages to a Tank Destroyer is the shear power at which the calibre of the tank is used. When upgraded, these vehicles can cause reek deadly damage on any vehicle within its path. Power, range, velocity of shells, penetration value are all key factors here. Disadvantages : Because Tank Destroyers carry main guns, they have little to no turn value as they do not have a turret, therfore they have to turn the entire hull (frame) of the vehicle to aim at their target, where as Light, Medium, and Heavy tanks can sustain protection by turning the turret but keeping their most armored part of the tanks head on. Speed, turn radius, sight, and the ability to get out of harms way are all disadvantages to a Tank Destroyer. In either case, you DO NOT want to go rushing into battle, you need to play strategic and tactical, use your allied commanders to aid you to take down the enemy. This brings us to the research tree and how to properly and successfully research your new vehicles. i62.tinypic/20st15g.png The above image shows the research tree of one of the dozens of tanks you can obtain through the nationalities. The research tree falls into 3 main categories : Light & Medium Tanks, Heavy Tanks, and Tank Destroyers, as you have previously learned. What type of tank and which line should I go with? This is where you must first decide what type of tank commander you will be. Do you want to have the mobility to move from area to area, striking enemies fast and hard, while being able to support your allies and protect your base? Then a Light, Medium, or Heavy tank is the right option. But, if you would like to use your range and power to strike heavy blows to unsuspecting enemy tank commanders, you should go with a Tank Destroyer, as the long range support. One you have established which type of vehicle you will go with, you need to understand the possibilities of each vehicle from its tracks to its turret. There is more to a successfull tank commander than just the size of the main gun and the armor it carries. Once you have decided on the basic line, you need to compare the various models of each class and decide which you would rather have. Do you want more armor, more speed and versatility? Or more shell penetration and damage. All these options can make a successful tank commander, but you need to use your intelligence and knowledge to aid you. Remember to not make any rushed decisions. What have we learned? A. Decide on the class. B. Decide which sub-model you want to achieve. C. Control the experience you are spending on modifications and upgrades, and research a new model of higher Tier before upgrading too heavily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. STRATEGY IN BATTLE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Glad to see you have made it this far commanders! Now its time to move on to more advanced knowledge of battle! One of the most important aspects of battle is understanding just that, the battlefield itself. You must understand all aspects from your base, to the enemies base, to where your allies are and your current position and where the hostile tanks are! On the battlefield, you have 3 main key points. Your allied base, the enemy base, and a neutral flag which is used to capture and succeed. Below is an image of the type of mini-maps you will be using in battle. i58.tinypic/2eelemb.png Friendly, allied bases are highlighted in green. Enemy bases are highlighted in red, and neutral flags are white. Allied tankers are highlighted in green as well, while the enemy tank commanders are red of course. Take notice, that if an allied tanker or an enemy is attempting to capture the flag, you must immediately take action and support or attack to repel the enemy off the flag or the battle will be lost! The more vehicles located within the radius of the flag, the faster the capture can be complete. However, take heed, as you do not want to expose yourself from cover so easily. This is where concealment and tactics come into play. Note : The green circle is your radar radius in which you have the ability to spot and mark enemies, use it wisely. Some key notes a successful commander must remember to do before each battle. Your tank is equipped with a zoom, which allows you to see the battle with more detail. You can see where tree cover is, dirt trails an roads, mountain cliffs and even farms and houses. Be sure to always maximize your radar using the + symbol. You also have coordinates of the map from A through J, and 0 through 9. These can be vital to sending out distress calls or positions of enemy tanks. You can pinpoint a location on the map by holding control Ctrl and left clicking on a specific coordinate on the map such as, A9, B3, E1 etc. You are also equipped with a reading of your tanks vital statistics such as its damaged areas, speed, rounds of ammunition left and more! i60.tinypic/a0xjio.png Now that you have access to the vital information and strategies, you need to understand where to position yourself on the battlefield to ensure your crews survival. Areas you want to look for to utilize contain many trees, high shrubs, or even structures which a tanks shells can not penetrate through to damage you. Below is an attached image showing a great location to stay hidden while having good vision on the open battlefield and your surroundings. i57.tinypic/vgmzgh.png As you can see, you are marked in a stealth area which means the enemy will be unable to see you on radar until you leave that area or a enemy tank commander has a visual on your tank from within a given range. From this view, this tank has vision on his surroundings, possible escape routes, the terrain infront of him and the flag. He can control the battlefield from here giving guidance to his allies as well as helping them strike down the enemy force! Be careful as walls can be broke down from vehicles so they can not protect you, though the buildings concrete structures can so use them to your advantage! This next image reveals a tank commander who has found an area which is not covered by enough terrain to be marked as stealth but can be mistaken as such. i60.tinypic/iz2hie.png As you can see, it has not been marked, and he is likely to be found on radar by enemies and located. Although he has some mountain terrain infront of him, this is a poor position to place yourself. Light, Medium and Heavy Tanks : Search for areas easy to access, with different types of cover and support structures you can fall back on if need be. Look for areas you can have great mobility to position yourself at where you can support friendlies and attack enemies at will. Tank Destroyers : It is vital that you find areas with less ease of access, using the cover of radar stealth as your most valuable tool, stealth areas! It is recommended that you find areas with higher elevation you can utilize your range and power to rain down shells from above, piercing the enemies armor where your allies can not reach! It is of utmost imporant that you do not rush in and stay out of range of your own allies as well as the enemies. You have the calibre to shell from afar, use it! Finally, understanding where, and when to strike it key. You must understand the different areas of a tank, from the hull, to the tracks, to the turret and gun, and where the most exposed parts are. Below is the basic structure of a tank, learning these will be key to your survivability on the battlefield commander! i61.tinypic/51tvc.jpg You must understand where your shells can penerate easily and where and when a different calibre is needed. This next image shows a great place to strike your enemies to deal the most damage and render them helpless. i61.tinypic/2v62s.png The gunner is aiming near his ammunition bay, which causes great damage as the impact can cause his ammunition to explode inside, destroying the tank instantly. Do not rush to fire your shells, take your time with each aim, and mark your target where it counts. Key factors to destroying Light, Medium, and Heavy tanks : - Aim for the fuel and ammunition bays, which are located above the tracks, and below the turret. It is better to strike from the side or the rear, rather than the front as the front hull contains a high supply of armor. - Use your speed and mobility to out flank enemies who are less mobile and do not have the turret turning capacity. - Upgrade your engine so that you can outmanuevre your enemy and use your speed to retreat when needed. Key factors to destroying Tank Destroyers : - The weakness of a Tank Destroyer is its inability to utilize a turret. This renders the tank useless when facing an opponent of high speed and mobility. If you happen to come upon a Tank Destroyer, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, challenge it head on, it will cost you your crews life! - When engaging a Tank Destroyer, you should first take out its tracks, so it is unable to move and position itself in a firing position on your tank. After you have tracked it, flank around it from the sides or behind, and start shelling its ammunition bay. Take notice that it may attempt to repair, so be sure to shoot its tracks if it does so it cannot turn. Once its tracks are disabled there is nothing it can do if it does not have sight on you. - If you do not have the position or mobility to take out its tracks, try to find cover which you can use to your advantage to fire shells to make it retreat to a different location. Once it starts to move, you must use this short period of time to get a better position for yourself. Remember, your shells can throw off the aim of the enemy long enough to escape death! Remember, you do not always have to be mobile to be successful in battle, although its not always wise to continue moving either, be smart about how you approach the battlefield, use your surroundings and know where your allies and enemies are, before they find you! Additions : - Just some extra bonuses Ive been asked to add. So here is an image of, on the majority of tanks, you should be aiming for, especially on tanks with larger amounts of armor. i60.tinypic/2h54twk.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
