So I started asking him questions trying to figure out 1. if I could help him and 2. if I even wanted to. heres how the convo went.... (Please learn from this) Me: What you need? I do everything but for some things I hire out somebody better than me. I got manufacturing partner marketers graphic designers artists beats etc. Him: Oh ok Me: So what do u need.. I see u use an online duplicator service. My releases are bar codes and cellophane wrapped. We got iTunes Amazon Spotify lastfm etc. and can submit to Universal So Im full service... I even sell what I push in the streets Myself Him: Thats wassup im looking for a manager Me: I manage as a business manager but I get tired of thinking its my job to fund their career or think shit is free just cause I have access... lol Im looking for artists N squads acrossed the country who are serious and will put there money where their mouth is. Honestly I JUST came across u. I see u invest in yourself. Him: YA my MONEY tied up tho. Im on my second solo album Me: I know how to take a lil and make make it grow until it becomes income instead of investment. Him: (Thumbs Up emoticon) Me: U solo or got a crew? Him: Me and a female Me: U been doin local shows? Him: (thumbs up emoticon) Me: how many people come and how often you performing locally? Him: 400 Me: How often u performing??? I see you reaching people thru getting on shows.... have u booked promoted and featured any? as in headline act? Him: (thumbs up emoticon) Me: How are u recording? and How much can u and your lady friend invest each month? Him: Im not giving you my money LMAO ....... (cry laughing emoticon) Me: Lets get something clear... I got my own money. Facebook: You cannot reply to this conversation. {END convo} MY ADVICE TO ALL.... you NEVER know who u are talking to.. but as a local artist you OWE it to yourself to be professional and courteous if somebody contacts you with any type of interest. Sure u do have to be careful because there are a lot of sharks. MOST people cant offer any credentials. Im not here to bad mouth him... (reason his name isnt included) but 400 persons at a show that wasnt his that he performed at DOESNT make you a professional. ALSO..... he should have asked me for my credentials or references. I am from a land locked state in the middle of the country that doesnt support local urban music other than rock *which isnt my specialty but I have drawn at least one artist some success in* Ive still managed to perform all over the Midwest, ATL, and even was on television performing, as an artist. . . . . AS WELL I have released 2 records as a label. 1 hard copy only... (sold out... and in the first day I sold personally myself 150 copies at over $7 a piece average with $10 as my asking price. My artist got paid $800 CASH MONEY IN HAND the first 24 hours after his release came in from the manufacturer in New Jersey, and only 50 of those were sold at a collaborative show that night... the other 100 I sold myself via rental car and HARD WORK!!!!!!! this artist still works with me and is the primary beat producer for my company and has a market share of over 15% for hip hop/rap beats in my city (where he is not from but lives and has worked with me since 2006. His album was released after a year and a half of hard work dedication and him putting in work in my studio to earn his keep as his investment, which allowed me to make the money I needed to keep him in there. The other I Digitally released, with the artists promise to provide the manufacturing cost half up front... which NEVER CAME THRU. His release is still on amazon iTunes last fm spotify etc. but without his hard copies making money locally there is no budget to market him nationally. YOU CANT ExPECT ANYONE OR ANY COMPANY TO INVEST IN YOU IF YOU WONT DO THE SAME. if you are going to be an artist... take the shit serious... cause a feature with a big name, big name branding, an advance, or any other show WILL NEVER MAKE YOU THE MONEY YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
