So I just realized it has been 10 years since I became a bandleader. An old mentor of mine once told me If you want what you have to say to be heard, you cant rely on anyone else to say it. With that in mind I formed the Nue Jazz Project back in 2005 to say what I had to say. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to perform with many amazing folks from around the world and I have only just begun to say what I have to say...I often times get compared by many to Art Blakey in the way I play, band lead, and envision jazz as a whole. To be honest; Id like to think that if he were alive today he would simply have enjoyed what he heard if he walked into one of my bands gigs if nothing else. My band is loud, My band is intense, My band is aggressive, My band is at times imperfect, My band may at times even rub the listener the wrong way, My band is a musical extension of my own self; and My band is one that you will want to come hear again and again because there is something about putting all of those things together that embodies what you have heard me call The Power Cosmic. Raw energy and power focused in a direction simply for the sake of providing the listener with a sonic experience. If I were to define jazz as anything...that is what I define it as. I didnt become a bandleader to be universally famous or wealthy, and if one day either or both of those things happen I will embrace it. So long as I do so as a result of holding true to the music and the people have I had the pleasure of performing with over the past decade. Some folks were only in my band for a short time; others, have been in for the long haul; but each and every one of them in my eyes are special because for a brief moment in time they were all Heralds of the Power Cosmic and this music is about connections if nothing else, no matter how brief. So to that end I want to say Thank You to the players; Thank You to you for listening, and I can tell you that the best years are still ahead. #BeholdthePowerCosmic Now it is time for the quintessential tagging of everyone who has played in the band at some point in time.
