So I know many people have discussed the 2001 biopic already, but I wanted to put my two cents in anyway. So I dont want to offend anyone who likes this movie, but I didnt like Judy Davis portrayal of Judy. Tammy Blanchard as younger Judy slipped into the role a bit easier; I actually thought I was looking at Judy when I saw her in costume, but I think she should have been kept for the remainder of the MGM scenes and the A Star Is Born production and Academy Award sequences (as well as Get Happy). Judy Davis portrayal of the older Judy in the Sixties was good, I thought, but it really took me out of the film knowing that she was significantly older than the age she was supposed to portray throughout the Forties and early- to mid-Fifties. Judy goes from her late teens to her forties within a year (filming Girl Crazy, which was released in 1943, then Meet Me in St. Louis, which was released in 1944)? I thought it was ridiculous; only a year had passed and Judy didnt age that quickly in real life. I know the casting in TV biopics is usually far from great, but the age thing just completely took me out of the movie and up to the Meet Me in St. Louis scenes, I had been enjoying the film. Did this bother anyone else? I also didnt like the way Judy Davis lip-synced to the playback. She kept doing something weird with her mouth that was very un-Judy-like, which again took me out of the film. Does anyone know of any other portrayals of Judy Garland that are good?
