So I set out for my Short Test RUN today, to see how the knee was - TopicsExpress

So I set out for my Short Test RUN today, to see how the knee was to perform from significant injury, followed by subsequent rest, recovery and rehab program. My first run in 10 weeks, so was super, super excited to be out running again! The goal was to aim to run for an initial 2k, and see how the knee felt after that, then take it 500 metres at a time - with a stretch of hopefully running 5k - if the knee held out that far!! As well as feeling excited to be going for a long awaited run, I was also feeling a little nervous and apprehensive, as I had no idea how I would go, or even if I would manage 1 or 2 km. Was also concerned about my cardiovascular fitness, given I havent done much over the past 10 weeks. Leg and glute muscle strength was also relatively weak, compared to their pre and post marathon condition last year. Anyway I set off - no music as I wanted to be very self aware throughout. 1k was achieved, no problem. 2k achieved, no problem. 5k came fairly quickly, although the cardio fitness was being pushed a little (meanwhile I was loving the feeling of the lungs and heart muscle being challenged again). At this point the knee is feeling remarkably good - so kept moving forward - one step at a time, telling myself to simply keep putting one foot in front of the other. Correct foot placement was of paramount importance to me today, so the mental focus and consistent in the moment self awareness was a huge key factor in every step. Im absolutely ecstatic to say I absolutely smashed my goal ...plus my stretch goal to pieces. Achieving a run distance of 16km! I am so rapt...and could not be happier! It feels so amazing to achieve and smash a goal that is so important to me, and I am so passionate about. It feels so great to be out running again, following an injury - doing something I love! The frustration of not being able to run, or do leg work over the past 2 months has been nothing short of horrendous! I wanted to share this post to provide an example of what can be achieved if one has the desired mindset, resilience, persistence and passion to overcome obstacles, set backs and challenges in striving to achieve health and fitness goals- but also in setting and achieving desired goals in life! Its also important for me to share how integral the right rest, recovery and rehab play in achieving fitness goals, and giving the body adequate time to heal and repair, following injury or overuse. Keep striving to achieve your goals, with the desired mindset anyone can achieve anything they want to. BUT you need to want it hard enough! Feeling pumped..and rapt to say IM BACK!! #positivemindset #achieveyourgoals #runyourbest #recoveryandrestissoimportant #youcanachievewhateveryouwant #keepstriving #runcoaching #noexcuses
