So I was driving past North Andover #12 a couple times and decided on my last pass to run in and donate at the Dunk Tank .. Woo! There is both a Dunk the Gooch Tank and a car wash to raise funds for the Warehouse worker fund ... so on my way out, I stopped at the light to talk to the protestors - on one side of the entrance - too. I said I am so happy for you and so excited to get back to the store soon!! They said thank you and as I drove away I realized who it was out there with a sign and a helper. Before the worker action, I want to say, beginning of July around the time of the lockout events at the Andover country club, but before the worker action, I was at the register talking to one of my favorite cashiers. We were worrying and I was saying how my kids were upset at the news of Mr. Demoulas ouster, when the man bagging groceries, said to me, What news? and I realized he was one of the special needs employees - and obvious to me, just slightly handicapped - the cashier thrust her hand out to touch my arm and stop me from continuing (but I knew already) and I made something up that was awkward and not very believable. The gentleman looked confused but politely finished bagging my groceries and I went on my way, feeling a little bad that it had happened. I have to say I feel felt heartbroken today to see him protesting there. I love Market Basket. I love what they do to employ special needs workers in jobs where they can shine. I love how they make the employees want to be the best possible at their jobs. I love how they bring in the freshest and the best of everything. Shame on the greedy shareholders that 4.6 billion in revenue and $217 million in profit was not enough for you that you would do that to us, to the workers and to this man. Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to go to the store soon and shake his hand and tell him that I saw him with his sign and that he really impressed all of the customers. What is wrong with the world?
