So I was reading an article in Discovery magazine today about the 64 year old woman who made the non-stop 110 mile swim from Cuba to Florida [nytimes/2013/09/03/sports/nyad-completes-cuba-to-florida-swim.html?_r=0] and thought, OK... time to get busy dude! LOL! My big accomplishment? Running 2 miles without dying. :/ After I busted my foot last year, I wasnt sure Id ever run again. As it was, it had been a long time since I had done so prior. Well today, I realized A) I can still run - yeay! B) Im twice as old and twice as slow as I used to be when I ran a lot - bummer and C) Its OK. If a 64 year old woman can swim non-stop for 110 miles, I can still whip this sorry butt back into shape. Today my time was nothing to brag about, but it set a low base from which to improve. Reasonable goal? Today, I ran/walked/ran/walked/ran 2 miles in 25 minutes. All things considered (like the fact that for over two years now, Ive literally spent 15+ hours a day sitting in front of a computer), it could have been worse. By the end of next month, I hope to make it a steady run (no walking) in 21 minutes or less, and still be able to stand, breath and talk after Im done. ;) New goals will follow that... one step at at time. Sucks starting over, but at this point, if Psalm 90:10 is true, Im 5 years over the hill and its either continue the down-hill trend and ultimately slide off into a ditch in constant pain and jacked up health... or finish strong. Im choosing the latter! This woman has truly inspired me. You go girl! Good for you.
