So Im curious if any of you have been following or are interested in the Americas Cup?? Ive been a fan since 2007 and have studied its history quite a bit... Most of my friends are surprised to find out that its the oldest trophy in sports. I was lucky enough to travel to San Francisco twice this last September to witness it live, and it absolutely blew my mind!!! Spent the first week watching from shore as well as on the bay in an Erickson 29 sailboat which was incredible. By the time it was tied and the last sudden death race was about to happen, I was already back at work in Portland. I knew that I had to be there on September 25th to witness sailing history but there werent any flights available :( so I took my chances on Craigslist for a ride share and what proceeded to happen is the stuff that could make a legendary comedy, but that story is for another time... Haha! One of the craziest experiences of my life for sure. After taking a ferry from Vallejo, I managed to make it to the Americas Cup pavilion an hour before the last race. It was one of the most awesome days of my entire life!!! I was surrounded by thousands of rabid and passionate sailing fans from all around the globe and for a few minutes, time just stood still... I know its extremely controversial for several reasons... (Larry Ellison, Deed of Gift, Challenger of Record, etc...) but to witness these boats and their sheer speed and beauty is almost unbelievable. Im so stoked to see New Zealand back in it! It was heart wrenching to watch Dean Barker walk off the boat and break down in tears. A whole country on his shoulders and they almost had it... What do you think? Will you be watching in 2017??? You know I will!!!
