So, Im going to get on my soapbox a little here... I overheard a conversation at lunch at Woodward (I tutor there 2-3 days a week). A teacher wrote up several students who didnt follow directions (that were posted in 3 different areas) and instead of going to their designated class, they decided to go to PE instead. She gets calls and emails from the parents blaming her and not the students for not following directions... Really?!? When does student ownership and responsibility kick in for a parent? Your kid messed up, he/she did what he/she wanted instead of what was required.. they were written up and have to go to detention.. suck it up as a learned lesson and that maybe they wont decide to do that again. As a past parent of Woodward.. when my kids messed up (which wasnt often.. :) ) but it did happen.. they did their punishment at school and had a little time to think about it at home as well. This entitlement and my kid is never wrong attitude is a disservice to them. Guess what parents.. its not always a tie at the Y.. and if they dont learn responsibility now.. you dont want them to learn it when they are picked up by the police.. Now back to my regularly schedule coffee and bacon memes.. :)
