So Im watching Moanin Jaw again a few minutes ago (I know, dont say it; Im masochistic), and Jaw pulled one of his usual numbers. The discussion was about Charlie Rangel, which led to race, which led to Donnie Deutsch saying yes, there are still pockets of racism in this country, particularly in the Republican party. Scarborough comes to life: Im stunned that youd suggest that my party... My Republican party is racist and then went on to filibuster Deutsch out of the conversation. He explained; When was the last time any president won re-election with 53% of the vote? Not Clinton. Not Bush. Youd have to go all the way back to Reagan. Since Scumborough wasnt courteous enough to allow his guest to rebut, let me pinch hit for Deutsch... During the 2012 election, yes Barack Obama won re-election with 53% of the overall vote, but of white voters, only 40% voted for him, while 58% voted for Romney. And of Asian, African-American and Hispanic voters, Obamas margin of victory actually expanded over his 2008 victory, which suggests to me that persons of color are increasingly identifying with a black man in power whos struggling to get anything done due to an increasingly intransigent Congress... which is itself racially unrepresentative of the country today. So yeah Joe, there are pockets of racism in your party. HUGE ones. Pockets big enough to contain an entire grass roots movement. And only an idiot would deny it at this point. Not all Republicans are racists. And not all racists are Republican. But if youre a racist in America today, youre probably a Republican. ~ author unknown
