So, Ive finally been watching my box set of the Dungeons&Dragons cartoon from the 80s, and I think Ive discovered something: Dungeon Master is actually the main bad guy. His power must derive from people participating in adventures in his land. To this end, he abductes innocent children and teens from our world, promises them a way home, gifts them fantastic weaponry, and even proclaims the wizard Venger as the source of all evil. They never return home however. After decades of questing for the diminutive sorcerer, they adopt their new reality completely, and forget their past life. The Dungeon Master must then recruit new heroes. As for Venger, hes DMs biological son who, after countless eons trapped in his fathers playground, breaks with familial bonds and seeks to usurp his fathers control and destroy all portals leading from his world to ours. DM twists Vengers appearance to better suit the illusion and proclaims his son the source of all evil. The son then changes his name to Venger, a-Venger, re-Venger. Thus, newly reborn he sets out to stop his tyrannical father, cut off his supply of fresh victims (ie the conduits to our realm), and avenge all the innocent victims lured and imprisoned by his father. Hence, Dungeon Master is the true villain and Venger the true hero.
