So Loretta Lynch-Obamas recent nominee to be the next US Attorney - TopicsExpress

So Loretta Lynch-Obamas recent nominee to be the next US Attorney General, and the first women of color Attorney General-has just announced a federal probe into the unbelievable chokehold murder of Eric Garner caught on video tape now that a grand jury has somehow cleared the NYPD officer responsible for the man’s death. This is wild on so many levels. She could become the first women of color to take over the Justice Department—and in the 1990s she spoke forcefully about “the pain of a broken trust” that historically marginalized communities feel and the need to repair generations of miscommunication and mistrust. And what’s even scarier to me than the fact that a grand jury cleared the NYPD officer responsible for killing a man as he clearly shouted “I can’t breath” or that this happened on the heels of the Ferguson decision, is that this should be a historical moment. Loretta Lynch deserves to be the next US Attorney General. Loretta Lynch should be the first African-American to oversee the justice department as it begins a nationwide effort to improve police relations in minority neighborhoods. But her nomination is about to become a lightning rod, and if the Democrats don’t approve her nomination during this lame duck session while they still control the US Senate, just imagine what will happen when a bunch of old, white men who are out of touch with the lives of minorities who have been historically marginalized (let alone ordinary people, generally) control the next Senate, which is likely to oversee and hopefully confirm her nomination. nytimes/2014/12/03/us/politics/race-relations-not-a-new-issue-for-loretta-lynch-attorney-general-nominee.html?_r=0
