So Nightingale is a three pound chiweenie that we all say is part mountain goat. She has been seen on the cabinet throwing off goodies to the other dogs when we couldn’t figure out how in the world she got up there. There is a free standing shelf close to the kitchen table and she has found multiple ways of using it for a step ladder. The other night we were having spaghetti for dinner and no one had any clue she was on that second shelf. No one knew the plan. It seems that Nightie was hungry for spaghetti too and, knowing we were not going to give her any, awaited the perfect opportunity to help herself. Sarah was seated on that side of the table with Joey, Mr. Sweetpups and me also seated around on all sides. Sarah got up from the table to get something from the refrigerator and as quick as a thief in the night, Nightingale jumped from her shadowed hiding spot, grabbed a string of spaghetti out of Sarah’s bowl and took off with it attached, quickly returning to her darkened place on the shelf. It was so fast, so unexpected that the three of us at the table couldn’t stop her…..and she was sucking in the spaghetti as she ran just like kids do! It was so very funny the three of us burst into laughter, Sarah turns around from the refrigerator and with wide innocent eyes asks, “What’s so funny- why are you guys laughing?” That made it even funnier to us because she was so oblivious to the thief that sat by her elbow that we started a laugh fest that seemed to have no end. So Sarah just said, “When I am older and can spell more words, I’m going to write a story about Nightie and call it ‘The Adventures of the Spaghetti Stealing Chiweenie’…………but I can’t spell enough words right now so it will have to wait.”
