So Oberlman and some other sports pundits are starting to poke at Jeter and say the over all stats are not there. That he is not the best Yankee out there, that the goodbye tour is not necessary. This may be true. Hell to me its just a discussion, a fun debate to be had compared to past players with no true real answer. But there is one number that disagrees with everything. 20. Twenty years man. Show me something negative. Show me the bad headline. Show me anything where he was not the classiest consummate sportsman and athlete. The perfect role model for kids. 20 years, 4 years longer at the position than the Ironman Cal Ripken. People forget he was amazing in 2012 with MVP like numbers. Not a Yankees fan at all, but in todays sports climate why try to break this down? You literally have to be almost 40 year sold to really have any recollection of a Yankee SS that you watched. Greatness comes in many forms and the greatest way to look at Jeter is to go no further than his nickname. The Captain plays great baseball, but thats not what makes him great. For two generations (I have 11 year olds that worship him) he has shown how to be a professional on and off the field, how to be a leader on the field and off, and most importantly been a shining spotlight for kids everywhere. Keith Olberman can kiss my you know what.
