So, Rolling Stone magazine put out a list of the top 10 drummers of all time. To my amazement Neil Peart was not number one...they selected John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. Im like okay, so hes number two then. NOPE!!! Keth Moon from The Who. By now I had just about had it with this list. Top ten drummers of all time and Neil Peart isnt one or two? I play drums and from this drummers point of view...Neil Peart is the hands down best drummer of all time. By now Im like he better be third and...sure enough there he was coming in at third place. I literally couldnt believe what I was seeing and then...I see it!!! This is a readers pick list. Oh, I get it. This is a popularity contest, not a true whos the best list where people that actually know about stuff pick the list. It makes complete and total sense now. There are way more people that like Led Zeppelin and The Who than those that like Rush. So, those two get the nod over the true best rock drummer ever. Id like to see what others think about this. I think its about popularity and not truly who is best. To me, the proof is in the pudding...Ringo Starr is number five on the list. Seriously?!?!?!?! Im not sure that he would hit number five if he was drumming against the top five drummers from Bellevue; Greg Leopold, Dave Loerich, Deron Thompson, Brian Waters and Dennis Runyan would all be ahead of Ringo.
