So Rosey and I bought a tankless water heater a few years back, - TopicsExpress

So Rosey and I bought a tankless water heater a few years back, because they seemed like an energy efficient alternative to heating a big tank of hot water. We decided to buy a Navien hot water heater. After about four years of hell, with this Navien breaking down about every six months—requiring me to pull it apart, clean and reassemble—it broke down, and no matter what I did, I could not get it working. I had my plumber come in and he had no luck. I called Navien and they arranged to have their qualified Navien-certified service technician in. After four hours, much of it on the phone with Navien Tech Support, he left and the Navien was still dead. I ended up having to replace the unit entirely, out of my own pocket. Today, five months later, I get a surprise invoice for $431 for that service call from the company that Navien sent to my home. Navien isnt paying them, so I have to. Im more than a bit disappointed that I need to pay for a service call that not only should be under the warranty of the product, but also yielding in absolutely no positive result. Ive learned a lot about tankless and how theyre not great with hard water, like Edmontons. They will require a lot of cleaning and flushing, which I did, but it still was a nightmare. Ive also learned that Navien really sucks. The units they introduced into North America had over a 90% failure rate. They claim theyre getting better, but who knows. So, the lesson here, is big companies still suck. If they dont stick it to you, theyll stick it to the smaller companies that they contract to deal with their mistakes.
