So a group called I Support Officer Wilson has called for a boycott on me (and others) based on my alleged lack of support for Law Enforcement. So lets set the record straight and lets deal in fact and not hysterical hyperbole. LET ME BE CLEAR - I do not want, nor am I asking for anyone to jump down their throats. 1) I wore a uniform for 22 years. Every time I get accused of not being supportive of those who do, it feels a little McCarthy-esque if not Orwellian. 2) I expect of the police exactly what I expected of those under my command - TOTAL TRANSPARENCY and professionalism and I expect them to immediately admit when they make mistakes, diagnose the reason the mistake was made and not repeat it. This idea is hardly revolutionary. 3) If there is an ACTUAL officer currently on the job who has a problem with something I wrote, step up, write me a message, tell me what I said and state your grievance - Im not perfect and Ill happily correct myself if I have said something unreasonable. 4) the groups thesis is that this isnt about race, yet the overwhelming majority of those targeted for boycott are black. 5) The solution is to foster dialogue between law enforcement and communities they police. Thats how I define supporting lad enforcement - I say that because I want every officer home safe at end of shift and I want every citizen to go home safe too.
