So after all the recent talks about DOD budget cuts(which has been the topic for a few years now), I have been doing research. In the past 4 years we have gotten an approximate annual 1% pay increase in base pay and housing allowance for cost-of-living adjustment, in which prior to that it was 4%+. Now it is proposed we take a 6% pay cut in base pay and housing allowance, which can total a few hundred dollars a month. In addition to this, the military as a whole has taken a major defense budget cutback over the past few years (makes it harder for us to do our jobs). Just researched and found out that an Admiral (O-10 in the Navy) makes $2,436 in housing allowances, $357 in food allowance, and wait for it, $19,763 in base pay! That totals out to around $270,672 a year, that is NOT including any hazardous duty pay, career sea pay, flight pay or any other incentive pays that they may get; which can potentially be a $1000 or more per month. This O-10 could literally pay off my car in one paycheck and makes more than WELL over 2/3s of my salary per year in one month. I wonder where we could do some cutbacks....?
