So an old and dear friend of mine sends out an email telling me that his hard-won skills at raising metal from sheets into objects of use and beauty has borne some serious fruit and that his work will be shown in a gallery in his city in the coming month or so. Since I wont be able to make the gallery showing, and being pretty fookin excited about this, because he has worked VERY hard to learn this from some of the best people in the country/world, I call and get the answering machine. I leave a message for him which generally expresses my enthusiasm about all of this, ask for a return call(because I usually do), and I hang up. Make one more attempt and do not leave a message, since there wasnt much point. Tonight I get a call from that number. Thinking that I was getting a return call, I excitedly pick up my phone and say something like Hey, Im excited for you. Instead, there is someone else on the line, slowly enunciating a speech about how they dont know who I am, basically dont care, and threaten to turn me into the AG office for harassing them. Even tried to explain who it was...no avail. *sigh* So I just left a return email and go on. The world has gone nuts.
