So before I carry on with my standard share blitz, I would like to offer you the words of Avikritar (Avee-kree-tar) Rinpoche from his Sunday discourse (something I should have mentioned long before now) regarding when one is looking for a qualified master under which to train. (My bad! My bad!) One must seek out a master with an unbroken lineage of teachings which stretch back to the time of the Buddha. Such a thing might be mind-boggling even to the point of incredulity for some, but it most definitely is possible. Naropa was once a well-established place of higher learning in India, built by masters who held such lineages and producing great masters such as Nagarjuna, each master in turn producing many disciples thereby spreading the possibility of survival of direct transmission. The great gift of the Land of Snow to the people near sea-level is that the Tibetans were able to keep these lineages intact while the land of India and Nepal experience the law of impermanence and karma in a very abrupt fashion. Thats not to say that Tibet is the ONLY treasure chest of unbroken lineage. In fact, I am completely unable to say one way or the other, so . . . check the source material of the teacher your are interested in. Make sure its an unbroken lineage. You will be better served in the long run. Cheers!!!
