So conveniently, NASA is closed along with the federal government. Perfect timing. Today was the prime time to view Comet ISON as it passes extremely close to Mars. Our first opportunity to find out wtf it really is. But the feed is dead... Now we are blind to a large approaching object. Yes, you can view it with a backyard telescope. Around 4 to 5 am. Look in the north east. If you have google sky map, just find Mars. It will round the sun November 19th. At that point, it is uncertain of its path towards us. Either over our North Pole, or straight at us. Either way, by late December we will pass through the tail. Expect meteors that range from the size of a football, to the size of an aircraft carrier. Last info estimated ISON at 50 plus miles in diameter. We are officially flying blind.
