So far this month, Ive been trying to incorporate songs into more of a Halloween theme. While the song Pain sounds like it would fit the bill quite well, that wasnt my reason for picking it. Jimmy Eat World are currently on tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their album, Futures. If you havent heard it, its a damn good album. Its gotten favorable reviews pretty much across the board, with an AllMusic rating of 4/5 stars. Music from the album has managed to wind its way through pop culture too. Four songs from the album were featured on One Tree Hill. The song Futures was in the movie First Descent as well as in the game Rock Band. Tonights song, Pain, was in 5 different video games and had a cover version on the show Smallville. There are also numerous other songs that have found their way to video games and movies too. I would say that there is a decent chance that youve heard a good portion of the album, even if you dont own it. This particular song made it to #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. The video features a guy trying to hurt himself, but he doesnt appear to feel any pain. Theres also a nice nod to Wes Anderson too. Youll notice some twins in the video that bear a striking resemblance to the characters of Uzi and Ari from the film The Royal Tenenbaums. Last night, I was lucky enough to go to a Jimmy Eat World show. Even luckier, I was able to get a pick from guitarist, Tom Linton. Its not extremely difficult to get a pick when youre in the front row, but I happened to be in the balcony. At the end of the show I got his attention, and he made a damn good toss.
