So, from what I gathered during last nights Animal Task Force - TopicsExpress

So, from what I gathered during last nights Animal Task Force meeting- Ken Mays (Pres. of the Humane Society of Carroll Co. BoD) thinks Carroll Humane should spend up to $15,000 to have their website redone by a professional? Yet, they do not even keep the data on their current website up to date (its been known to take OVER 4 WEEKS for kitties from the stray list to turn up on the adoptable list, cats have been adopted, and not been taken off of the website for as long as 3 weeks, and we know they only list about 1/2 of the stray animals on there). When asked why it wasnt kept up to date, he first denied that was true, and then (of course) blamed it on a lack of staff. When it was suggested that a volunteer be allowed to do it, he refused to even consider the idea of a volunteer being allowed to access the website. He says they have plenty of money for this. If they have plenty of money, why dont they hire a part timer to keep the website updated? If they have plenty of money, why are huge numbers of kittens being killed for want of a cheap antibiotic, to cure their URI? If they have plenty of money, why are injured kitties, like Chloe, suffering in cages for days, without treatment? Or worse, being killed, rather than treated? Vetting is pretty much ALL the org. is financially responsible for. The county pays for everything else. Every MD county around us provides veterinary care for the shelter pets in some capacity, and they are all govt. run. Explain to me, please, why everyone feels the Humane Society is the best choice to provide AC and sheltering in Carroll Co.? Could it be that they can afford to spend $15,000 on a website with all of the bells and whistles, because they have been allowed to keep the adoption fees for the pets, (and all donations) presumably to cover the veterinary costs, but then they fail to have provided very much veterinary care at all? They are still not even sending all the pets out spayed or neutered, and dont vaccinate on intake to keep them healthy, but instead, when they are moved to the adoption area. And, of course, sick or injured animals only SOMETIMES receive treatment, IF they are wearing a collar/ ID, or are microchipped. It seems to me they are willing to spend any amount of money to keep appearances up, and improve their image, but willing to do precious little for the pets. Feeling very, very disgusted. Even more than usual.
