So having seen war/military memorabilia that I gave a dealers I realized that Im Smarter then your average bear. For Example everyone knows about the Navajo code talker of WW II But they do not know about the 36th Infantry Division in WW I. This was a Division made up of nothing but Native Americans and Their insignia was a arrow head pointing downwards with a T cut out of the middle. The idea of using this almost archaic language came from Philip Johnston, a World War I Veteran who grew up in a Navajo Reservation as a missionarys son. Johnston, a non-Navajo, who spoke the unwritten language, believed this was an undecipherable code. He was right! It was a weapon for which they (Japanese) could never find an answer, remarked 84 year, old, Code Talker, Frank Chee Willetto while in New Orleans recently. The Navajo language never played such a significant role in American history until they provided secure authenticated oral communications to prevent eavesdropping. There was a company of Indian soldiers in France during WWI in the 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, who spoke 26 languages and dialects. These events and lessons learned gave birth to the code talkers. In 1942 24 Navajo code Talkers were attached to the Third Marine Division serving from Guadal Canal to Iwo Jima and beyond. 8 Native American soldiers served in the U.S. Army Africa in the 168th Infantry, 34th Division 17 Comanche soldiers in Europe, in the 4th Signal company, 4th Infantry Division. Now what I have done is put together every patch authentic to WW II (The real thing not a remake.) including the 36th Infantrys patch from WW I. I have also located the division pin made by Meyers for the 168th Division and the sterling collar pins for the 4th Signal Company. Also included is the WW II Infantry School Crest also made by Meyers (Most of the authentic period medals were made in sterling by Meyers medals of NY) I am putting all of this in a shadow box a picture of the Code Talkers 1960s reunion and the full info of what Ive also disclosed here. Everything will be labeled and explained on labels under each shoulder patch, Crest, etc. So, what do you think and what do you think I should charge for this collection?? BTW this is the type of research I put in everything I buy for resale.
