So...here is the long awaited update. We met the surgeon today. He will be doing a beating heart double by-pass surgery which is a minimally invasive procedure. He will only be opening the lower part of my sternum which will allow me to return to work, with no restrictions, within 2 weeks of the surgery! Here is the crazy part. Longview, TX is a small East Texas town of maybe 80k. The surgeon is the former head of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital and is a nationally recognized surgeon. Of the 4200 Thoracic Surgeons in America, only 20% are able to consistently perform beating heart surgeries....thats only 800 surgeons in a nation of 318 million! So you may be wondering how a nationally recognized, innovative, trail-blazing beating heart thoracic surgeon ended up in little ole Longview Texas? GOD. I will be going in for a CAT scan next week and am looking to schedule the surgery on the 18th. Thank-you for your continued prayers, thoughts, well-wishes and support.
