So, is there an Orthodox position on musical instruments in worship? I definitely oppose their introduction into the native Byzantine rite, simply because organs just sound horrible with Byzantine liturgy. However, to my knowledge, the Orthodox West began to use musical instruments before the schism, so that their introduction is not exclusively a schismatic phenomenon. Plus, some African Orthodox use drums (not rock band drums) liturgically in a way which actually seems to work. Thoughts?
