So it may make more sense, and be funnier (maybe) here is the full transcript of the interview that the Brag cut down( so it didnt make sense and some things were out of context). Its amazing how much the media will bend for you until the moment youve handed over the money. Then you get screwed. Ill be having words... THE BRAG’S RECORD STORE DAY SPECIAL The team: The team is me, team Tim Barber or King Pigeon, if you prefer! I run everything in relation to the records in the shop from quoting on vinyl collections to cleaning, grading, pricing and soaking up the vinyl digging scene through ongoing and interconnecting relationships with collectors, other dealers and lots of regular Joes and scallywags in between. The history: Pigeon Ground has a long and convoluted history. We’ve been here 10 years. The vinyl factor has been present for 9 of those 10 years. Originally opened by two fine women who went to the same primary school, Balmain Public (colloquially known as Pigeon Ground Public: as the school was build on the grounds of the old pigeon shooting ground, thus the name. We’re not talking clay pigeons here, either, by the way…), the idea was to bring a select take on 20th century culture in terms of fashion, music, film, art, literature, design etc. The original ethos remains. We’re a bricks and mortar 20th century shop selling (almost exclusively) cool 20th century stuff. Music on vinyl and cassette makes up a large part of what we do. What’s playing in store right now? Nothing. We’re closed and it’s late at night, but earlier today, Otis Spann’s “Bottom of the Blues” LP from 1968 was getting a good work-over (UK original pressing, on Stateside, in excellent condition: $50). The old Triple M theme on 7” from the 80s got a spin too, earlier in the day…I’m showing my age… How are you celebrating Record Store Day on April 19? We’re not. Record Store Day is for losers! Just kidding…sort of. We’ll be stocking a small selection of RSD only releases, but will have our usual fine selection of quality vintage vinyl available for sale, which is refreshed and updated every week, regardless of what particular “day” it is. I mean, the day after “Record Store Day” is “Easter Sunday”, we’ll be closed for this particular “day” out of respect to the amazingness of resurrection and new birth, but otherwise it’s just another “day”. I mean, the Wednesday after RSD is “World Book and Copyright Day” according to the United Nations website…yawn… In the spirit of High Fidelity, what are your top five side one, track ones? Oh, right, a serious question! The Smiths: The Smiths “Real Around The Fountain” The Smiths: Meat is Murder “The Headmaster Ritual” The Smiths: The Queen is Dead “The Queen is Dead” The Smiths: Strangeways, Here we Come “A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours” Survivor: Eye of the Tiger “Eye of the Tiger” What was the first record you bought? Survivor: Eye of the Tiger. I bought it 2nd hand in New Zealand in 1982 perhaps unwittingly setting the course for my “career”…(I WAS 10 years old, so please don’t be TOO judgemental!!!) What’s the one record you argue over most? It’s not just one, it’s several I sold to a good friend at “I’m green” prices, almost 2 decades ago. The beef is, he doesn’t even play them. They’re all worth 3 figures and he’s got them stored at his brother’s house… What’s selling like hotcakes at the moment? Der…INXS: Kick and anything by Rodriguez or The Sunnyboys…and hotcakes!
