So it would seem that Mr Abbott will abolish the National Road - TopicsExpress

So it would seem that Mr Abbott will abolish the National Road Transport Renumeration Tribunal. He will therefore be supporting the big retailers such as Coles who deny the link between driver fatigue and wages earned. There were 200 fatalities last year in Australia involving truck drivers. Many long haul truck drivers just fall asleep after driving 17 hours or more. There have been 2 major Inquiries held into the industry and both Inquiries have found that there is a significant link between the way drivers are paid (by kilometres travelled only) and fatigue. However the Abbott Government has decided to do nothing about the pressure applied to drivers by large logistic companies to complete jobs in the absolute minimum time and with no regard to safety of drivers and other road users. I do hope that in driving in the country this year, that I am not a victim of a long haul driver who has just fallen asleep at the wheel. And I have noticed recently that the logistics companies want to bring in Asian drivers under 457 visas, obviously because they will work for lower wages. When are we going to wake up to what is happening in our country.
