So its tit-for-tat-for-tit. Sg ups its tolls cos Malaysia did. And Msia upped its tolls after Sg upped its Vehicle Entry Permits. The wonder is that the ST didnt mention the VEP at all in its report. TODAY and BT mentioned it almost dismissively and only BT gave the rates. I guess they want to make clear that the VEP and the tolls are not linked cos the VEP is for the specific reason of making sure the cost of driving in Singapore is the same whether its a foreign-registered or Singapore vehicle. But leaving out the background is surely not how this saga should be told? If Sg is standing by its VEP policy, then stand by it and argue the point! I got confused by the different ways MSM presented the fees. But at the end of the day, its this. If you are travelling out of Singapore to Malaysia and back in a car, its $13 from Oct 1. I suppose the Msians will report it differently because they will have to add the VEP on the Singapore side, which ranges from $20 to $35 a day. For goods vehicles, its $10 to $40 per calendar month. .
