So, just got back from the local day shelter aka the public - TopicsExpress

So, just got back from the local day shelter aka the public library....Matt and I went to argue with the librarian about being billed $17 for a music CD that they claim was never returned and they deemed lost. We told them that we had returned it and then this one librarian went to the CD rack and did a cursory search. She looked where it should have been and said, sorry, it wasnt there and that we needed to pay up. Angry at how she made no effort to assist us, I informed her that we were going to search the entire collection. So she was gruff and walked away. Matt and I spent about 15 minutes searching and what we found was laughable. Evidently, their volunteer does not know the alphabet and must be color blind, as each CD is cataloged with a colored dot, representing the music genre, and the CDs are placed in title/performer last name alphabetical order.Everything was mixed haphazardly and out of order ( Our OCD was screaming!) and the best was when Matt found the missing CD. We went back to the desk and Broom Hilda had the head librarian come assist us. That librarian told us that the CD has been taken out and returned 13 times since we returned it. With all their high tech computer crap, they never knew it was there. But the automatically generate the e-mail demand bill. Dont get me wrong, I love the library. I raised my kids there with weekly visits and spent years of my college studies in research rooms working on projects. But the piss-poor attitude displayed today was a major turn off, and a simple mistake, on their part, should have at least elicited an apology. In the age of the internet and e-books, no wonder the public library has become the day care shelter for the homeless and indigent.....:( smh!
