So lots of people are giving out on social media over the fact - TopicsExpress

So lots of people are giving out on social media over the fact that Leonardo Di Caprio did not win an Oscar (again). He has 5 nominations. Quite frankly anyone who thinks this is unfair can get the freaking boat: Roger Deakins - widely acclaimed as the best cinematographer working today has been nominated for 11 Oscars and never won and he got burned again tonight. Amy Adams also had 5 noms and no wins, and also got burned again tonight, yet there is little or no mention of her on Twitter? Peter OToole had 8 wins for acting and never won, though he did get an honorary Oscar in 2002. Brad Pitt may have picked one tonight as a Producer on 12 Years a Slave, but he still hasnt won one for his acting. Great Actors who never won an Oscar (and never will): Marilyn Monroe, Peter Lorre, Myrna Loy, John Barrymore, Raul Julia. Amongst those still working and awaiting a win: Ian McKellan, Julianne Moore, Bette Midler, Ed Harris, Steve Buscemi, Jeff Daniels, Richard Gere, John Cusack, Jim Carrey, Samuel L Jackson, Alan Rickman, Donald Sutherland, Meg Ryan, Robert Downey Jnr., Tom Cruise, Sigourney Weaver, Edward Norton, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Woody Harrelson, and Liam Neeson. Edward G. Robinson never won and died two months before an honorary Oscar was presented to him in 1973. Ewan McGregor, despite appearing in over 50 films (several of which were nominated in other categories), has never even received a nomination! Harrison Ford only has 1 Oscar nomination (Best Actor in Witness) to his name. John Malkovich only has 2 nominations (to put that in perspective Being John Malkovich got 3 nominations!). Great Directors who never won a Best Director Oscar: Alfred Hitchcock (Honorary Oscar in 1968), Stanley Kubrick (his only Oscar win was for Best Effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey), and George Lucas (Honorary Oscar in 1992 - the only Oscar awarded from outer space). But spare a thought for sound re-recording mixer Kevin OConnell, who began his unsuccessful quest for an Oscar with his first nomination in 1983 and 20 nominations later (including 2 of the 5 nominations in both 96 and 98)..... is still waiting for a win! However, there is one even more depressing statistic - composer Victor Young was nominated 21 times before finally winning an Oscar for 1956s Around the World in 80 Days, earning him the title of most nominations before a win. Unfortunately, Young died shortly before the Oscar ceremony took place, and the award was granted posthumously. All in all Mr. DiCaprio is in pretty good company.
