So many people think highly of themselves and are sometime over confident to the extent of danger. There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Even if it comes to one of the greatest rituals in Islam which is Jihad, our Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallams said: O people, do not wish to meet your enemy and ask Allah for a’afiayah (safety and wellbeing). But if you were to meet the enemy, then remain steadfast and firm. From this we learn that one should not throw himself in deep waters thinking that he can swim the high seas! Debating the disbelievers or the innovators is something that the Salaf avoided as it hardens the heart. Some of the Salaf advised that one must move out from his home if his neighbor is an innovator so that wouldn’t affect him and his family. He got this from the order of the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam: Whoever hears of the dajjal, he must distance himself away from him. The majority of Muslims would defy the order of the Prophet and go to take a look at the dajjal thinking highly of their Iman. Therefore, always be fearful that your heart might be penetrated and protect it by abiding by the Sunnah.
