So months back I posted about the bunny heimlich saving my bunnys (Scottie) life. Well, today I gave him individual pellets just to try to put him back on the food and of course, choking again. I saved him but this time it was harder. He was gasping way longer than I thought from the flinging so I syringed water into his mouth then continued with the heimlich. Eventually it mushed up to where he could swallow it, thank the heavens. Im posting this because I want people aware of this more. Since I had to witness it twice, Id like to say from my experience how he acted when choking so you know the signs. My bunny is very calm so he wasnt running around in panic. Instead he sat there, eyes bulged and tilting his head back. His chest would thrust forward quickly while his head went back when trying to swallow, super noticeable. The third eyelid was extremely shown too. His eyes were also tearing lots of discharge, though his nose was also but thats because of his sneezing condition. Its these unnatural behaviors that are obvious enough for any bunny parent to notice. I learned my lesson now: if an old bunny chokes on a solid, he most likely will again. From now on its pellet pudding for this fella. If you guys have any bunny heimlich experiences please share. Kisses and nose bonks for you all, from Scottie.
