So most of you know we decided to home school Ronald this year. We planned to join CHA (Cypress Homeschool Association) and their co-op so that he could be involved where Mandas girls are... Well they have a volunteer requirement per family (which I am MORE THAN HAPPY TO MEET at after hours activities and through other means) but because I am not a stay at home mom and cant volunteer during the day in classes my son is not welcome in their group .... This is a group that is not for profit and works solely with volunteers but this is part of the email I received from their Coop Coordinator We are not a charity organization. If you are not able to pay your volunteer dues(by volunteering at co op) you cannot participate. Basically implying that I wanted something for nothing which was NEVER the case!!! Then later in the email she said ...There are several families in CHA that work full time and their children are not able to participate. We also have families with children or parents that have life threatening illnesses…they are also unable to participate. There are moms that have new babies and cannot volunteer so their family sits out a few semesters until they are ready to come back....on and on she goes even suggesting that if we said Manda was homeschooling him full time he could go but that would be a lie and we would be making our children liars...if you take another child into your home and homeschool them then yes, you can bring them to co op. That being said, I guess the decision really is in your hands. Are you willing to lie and say that you are homeschooling this child full time in your home all week? Also, by you telling this lie you are also involving the children in lying. This is a choice only you can make. I have told you the rules and how we follow them. If you choose to lie, there is nothing I can do about that. WHAT???? We never even suggested that we would do or say that!!!! Needless to say we are NOT participating in Cypress Homeschool Association! I sent an email to the president withdrawing my application. I got a call this morning, NO APOLOGY, and a lot of excuses! After sharing my situation with a few of the other CHA parents I find that most are unhappy with the new leadership. I promised them I would spread the word about how this family friendly organization treats families in their organization! Also about how this 501c3 organization is not a charity!!! So here ya go!
